Keep Fit and Boxing Basics

You do not need to compete to be able to train at Empire. We have a thriving class of keep fit enthusiasts who come along to experience the rewards that boxing conditioning has to offer. Whether you'd like to get fitter, are training for a specific sporting discipline or have always just fancied trying your hand at this marvelous sport, we can help.

About the class

Our keep fit class are over 17s who train alongside our boxing squad. You will be able to take part in boxing conditioning drills and disciplines. In short, you will train like a boxer. You will learn the basics of boxing such as stance, guard, defence and punching techniques.

Although our keep fitters play a valued part at Empire, on occasion our boxing squad (as representatives of our club) will be prioritised, especially in the run up to bouts/shows.

Many of our keep fitters have gone on to make the step up to competition and joined our boxing squad. If you are interested in training for competition please have a chat with one of our coaches.

What will I need?

You will need:

  • Comfortable training clothes and footwear.
  • A bottle of water.
  • Warm, dry clothes to change into after the session is complete.

Before spending money on gloves we have pairs available at the club that you are welcome to use while trying out the sport.

Optional:

  • Skipping rope.

So, how do I get started?

First and foremost we are a competitive boxing club so keep fit places are limited. If you are interested, please come down to one of the classes and ask for Margaret or Les Welsh.

    Hi

I am interested in your keep fit classes, am I able to try one without paying the annual fee? It seems they are almost 2 hours long (and my fitness levels aren’t what they used to be), can you give me an idea of the structure in a class, is there much distance running or circuits for instance?
Any information you could provide me with would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Eddie

    Hiya Eddie,

Come along to the club and have a word with one of our coaches, Tue or Thu – 7pm. You can take a look around and you will be advised on availability of places and what you can expect.

    Cheers.
