Boxing squad
The chance to join our boxing squad and represent the club in competition is subject to our coaching staff's discretion and invite. If you are over 17 and have no previous boxing experience you would first need to join our Keep Fit and Boxing Basics class. If you are under 17 without previous boxing experience you would first need to join our Junior class.
About the class
Making the commitment
Boxing is a serious sport and requires a great deal of effort, focus and commitment. You will need to make sacrifices. Our coaching staff will only allow you to box when you are 100% prepared and the training involved to get to this level will be strenuous but very rewarding. Be prepared to live the life!
Under 17s box as Juniors, 17 - 34s as Seniors. Those aged between 35 and 40 can box as Masters.
Junior boxing squad
Our staff constantly assess the junior class and when the time is right may suggest that junior members who have mastered the required technical standards graduate to the senior class (where our boxing squad train) to continue their development. You must be aged 11 or over to spar or compete.
If you are a junior boxer with previous experience and wish to box for our club, please visit the gym along with a parent/guardian and have a chat with our coaching staff.
Senior boxing squad
If you are over 17 and have been training in our Keep Fit and Boxing Basics class you may wish to be considered for competition. Our coaches will help you decide if and when you are ready for this.
If you are a senior boxer with previous experience and wish to box for our club, please visit the gym and have a chat with our coaching staff.
Competing
All boxers must have an ABAE medical card which involves a doctor examining you to confirm that you are fit to box.
Once you have your medical card (ME3) you can train towards your first bout. When you are ready our coaches will 'match' you with another competitor of similar weight and experience.
Under 17s box as Juniors, 17 - 34s as Seniors. Those aged between 35 and 40 can box as Masters.
