About the club
Empire School of Boxing is based in Blyth, Northumberland, in the North East of England. The sign outside reads 'All welcome' - An ethos that Head coach Les Welsh has instilled since forming the club in 1992.
The Empire School of Boxing is not an intimidating place, it is a welcoming place. I like to think that on Winter nights, kids can see the gym lights burning and know that they have an alternative to hanging about on street corners. Our club motto is 'We strive for perfection', and by this we mean inside and outside the ring. At Empire we produce outstanding people first, outstanding boxers second. A diverse range of ages and gender use our facilities - Competitive boxers, keep fit enthusiasts, people preparing for entry into the military or training for a specific challenge. A sign of the regard in which the club and coaches are held is the number of these people who come back to see us, long after boxing careers and training days are over.
Though the club has a renowned history and superb track record of producing accomplished competitors, it is driven by a common work ethic of constant improvement and forward thinking. From coach to boxer, we endeavour to learn and develop in every session.
The Empire School of Boxing prides itself on it's role in the community.
Not only do we take exceptional pride in the outstanding young people we help develop, we are also committed to playing an active role in helping members of our local community. Over the years we have taken part in many community initiatives and are always willing to help a worthy cause.
